About CSMC The Center for the Study of Mathematics Curriculum is committed to developing expertise, leadership, and a supportive infrastructure for the study of K-12 mathematics curriculum materials. Major themes of the work of the Center include articulating qualities and characteristics of high quality curriculum materials, enabling teacher learning through curriculum material investigation and implementation; and building capacity for developing and studying the impact of curriculum materials. Center partners include Michigan State University, University of Missouri, Western Michigan University, University of Chicago, Horizon Research, Inc., Columbia, MO Public Schools, Kalamazoo MI Public Schools, and Grand Ledge MI Public Schools. For more information about the work of CSMC, see the website at: http://mathcurriculumcenter.org. CSMC Research Associates The Center recruits and collaborates with scholars interested in contributing to its research mission. Scholars with diverse interests and expertise are sought, including mathematics education researchers, mathematicians, cognitive psychologists, and pyschometricians. Center Research Associates partner with CSMC staff to examine an area of research related to the Centers' research mission. Center Research Associates and Center Faculty form an extended research team, working together on some studies and supporting individual research efforts. Center Research Associates are supported through travel funds and opportunities to network with a group of scholars pursuing similar interests. The Center also encourages and supports the development of proposals initiated by Research Associates to funding agencies. Support CSMC Research Associates are eligible for travel support to meet with CSMC staff, visit partner schools, and further their planning and data collection. They also participate in CSMC research conferences on mathematics curriculum. Recruitment and Selection CSMC Research Associates are scholars from institutions not directly associated with CSMC partner institutions. Interested scholars are asked to articulate their specific plan (research question, rationale, methodology, timeline) and describe the relationship of these plans to the research mission of the Center. This 3-4 page project description is reviewed by the CSMC Management Team. Research Associates serve for a 2-year renewable appointment. Responsibilities CSMC Research Associates are responsible for initiating a research project or contributing to a project initiated by Center staff. In either case, they collaborate with one or more Center staff in carrying out the project. They also share their ideas and work with other members of the research team (Center staff and Research Associates) and, in turn, receive feedback and ongoing support for their work. Research Associates are also responsible for providing a final report of their work. Contact If you'd like to learn more about the role of CSMC Research Associates or to discuss a particular idea, contact one of the CSMC Directors.
